Before releasing his first album, Tetragram, in 1995, Felix Wazekwa spent several years as a lyricist for many well-known Congolese artists including Papa Wemba and Koffi Olamide. It was during this time that he earned his moniker, The King of the Verb, which refers to the complexity of subject matter and wordplay found in many of his compositions.
In 1998, after releasing three solo albums, Wazekwa founded his own band, Cultur'A Pays Vie. Consistently earning a respectable amount of Afropop airplay, the group’s most recent release is entitled Faux Mutu Mogo Boye.
Wazekwa is considered by many of his peers to be the best songwriter of his generation.
