Kristo. Born in 1979, Christophe Papa Kango starts out his musical career by taking part in Western dance competitions. At twelve years old, he embraces rap music. In 1998, he formed the group PNB (Po Na bino) with friends Leslie Tumba, Didier Ntumba, and Alex Dende. They are only the second Congolese group, after Fatima Cia, to make a rap video.
In 2003, Kristo Papa Kango recorded a live studio session with well known Congolese jazz musicians, as well as with the esteemed lyricist and singer, Jean Goubald, in the song Ensemble.
Kristo Papa Kango also performs with a local jazz chorus, and is focused on bringing the local language, Lingala, into rap, as well as performing with live instrumental accompaniment rather than digitally based sound tracks.
Didier. Didier Ntumba was born in 1978 in Liege, Belgium, and returned to the Congo at 15. It was at this time that he met Kristo Papa Kango, and they discovered their common passion for music. Didier’s first love is funk, both American- and European-style. Together with Kristo Papa Kango and other friends, he founded the group PNB (Po Na bino).
Didier also appreciates the Congolese rumba and future plans include studio recordings.
